Bath Fitter installed a shower in our home many years ago. When I lost my husband 4 years ago, I lost income and expenses for property maintenance forced me to renovate my parent's home that was empty for more than 10 years. One of the first projects was to replace the rusted, corroded bathtub before finding reputable contractors for floors, replace complete air conditioning unit/ductwork, toilets, electrical panel to code, and sanitary lines to septic tank plus cleaning, painting, appliances, and hauling old furniture out. It took several years and all my money but the house was now ready to be occupied. Wrong!! I had to have my home tented for termites and spent 2 nights in the home. The first morning I needed to shower. I have a back injury but in my shower at home I feel 100% safe. I was frightened in the new Bath Fitter shower. I had to grab and hold on to one of the grab bars to keep from loosing my footing on the slippery, soapy base and about 2 inches of water that would not drain properly. Soap scum covered the tops of my feet and I wasn't sure I could get out of the shower without slipping and falling and breaking a hip or doing more damage to my back. I did not use that shower the next morning; I was afraid to. I waited until I could get into my home that afternoon. Subsequently I had the pipes scaled. Then more than $11,000 to have the whole system coated. I thought the shower drain pipe was clogged and had the plumber come in to see if he could find the problem. He snaked 25 feet and the pipe was clear. He was able to find the problem: Bath Fitter installer had tilted the draining pipe upward instead of down which prevented waste water from draining properly as it had when my Mom used the tub years ago. As a result it is unsafe to use the shower as intended and installed by Bath Fitter. It is the guest bath and is pretty to look at but can't be used. If a guest tried to shower, slipped, fell, and was injured, I would be liable. Therefore, I have lost a bathroom because of this installation not to mention more than $7,000 I was charged. The plumber was here Tuesday, July 5, and I called Bath Fitter. I was told that the person who would handle my call went home early and she would call me in the morning. I went into detail about what their installer did to the drain. I left my cell number. I got no call the next day. I waited. I called again early Friday morning and was told the installers came in around 10 and I would receive a return call then. They have refused to respond. I have waited 3 more days this week for a response. They are completely ignoring me. Since I explained the problem they created during my first call, they know they are responsible and what will have to be done to correct their error. The plumber told me that the whole shower would have to be removed to gain access to the defective drain installation and that's going to cost them to install a whole new replacement. I want Bath Fitter to rectify this NOW. I am an 85-year-old partially disabled widow of a WWII veteran but if I am forced to get a lawyer, I do work for one who can get me the right one to handle this for me. I can also fil a complaint with BBB and DPR in Tallahassee and the Counties who issue permits for this Company to do business in each County.
